Does Jupiter damage the house he sits in and Saturn restores the house he sits in?
It is not correct to say that Jupiter damage the house he sits in and Saturn restores the house he sits in. All houses produces completely their good results if they are occupied or aspected by benefic or their lords are owing benefic house. The same will be the result in case of malefic. This good effect will be ensured in the case of when planets are not weak or occupying malefic house, sign and free from association or aspect of malefics.
Any planet do not damage the house until they’re not weak, associated or aspected by malefic. Planet will always try to save the sign/house as he have to survive with that situation himself. He may affect the houses he owns or aspects.
The house suffer destruction when the house itself, its lord and the Karka are devoid of strength and are hemmed in betwix malefic, or are associated with or aspected by malefic.
Malefic posited in the 6th, 8th and 12th places from Lagna or the house under consideration cause the destructionn of the said house. Benfic in such a position are not capable of producing good effects for the house.
Jupiter always protects a house he sits in or he aspects, it rarely destroys a house. Wherever Sadhu/Guru sits, he removes many negative energies of that area. (साधु अथवा गुरु जहाँ बैठ जाता है वहाँ बहुत से दोष स्वत: ही दूर हो जाते है). That’s why Jupiter in ascendant or Kendra is said to be remover of thousands of ill effects. However, Astrologers will apply their own theories that Jupiter is the neutral lord of 12th house, therefore it damages the house and it indicates expansives wherever he sits. But, the truth is far away from this. A saint/Jupiter has nothing to do with wealth/expensives.
Misconceptions - Many of people/astrologer believes that Jupiter damage the house he sits in and Saturn restores the house he sits in. Is this really true and what is the myth behind this?
जीव क्षेत्रे यदा शनि:, शनि क्षेत्रे यदा जीव: | स्थान हानि करो जीव:, स्थान वृद्धि करो शनि: ||
This shaloka is clearly saying, if Saturn occupies the sign of Jupiter and Jupiter occupies the sign of Saturn. Then, Jupiter damages the house and Saturn restores the concerned house. The literal meaning of this is, Saturn is said to be beneficial in the signs of Jupiter and Jupiter becomes malefic in the the signs of Saturn.
Thanks! Hope this will helpful

I would like to break some myths here-
- Jupiter is the most positive planet as per astrology. It does not destroy the house it sits in. Infact it tries to protect the karakatvas(things that are represented by the house) of the house he sits in. Being an astrologer I don't agree with the thoughts that Jupiter destroys the house it sits in. Practically I did not find this theory making any sense after evaluating several birth charts, where my clients had a positive feedback about house where Jupiter was sitting in. To analyse Jupiter's effect in your chart, please take the following things in consideration. First check whether Jupiter is malefic, beneficial or neutral as per the lagna and check the houses that are owned by Jupiter. Now check in which sign it is placed, if it is placed in its own sign or a friendly sign, it will incur positive results. After that check if it is being aspected by friendly, enemy or neutral planets. Check the aspects of Jupiter. If Jupiter is being aspected by more than one malefic it will lose its strength and will not be able to provide good results during its dasha and vice versa. Don't forget to check the degrees. If Jupiter is debilitated, it will not provide good results in relation to the house it sits in, but if debilitated Jupiter is conjucted by a positive and friendly planet it will lose its neechta.
- Same goes with planet Saturn, which does not promise to restore the house it sits in. People with 2nd house Saturn face lot of problems in accumulating wealth, though 2nd house Saturn is considered as its good position. And if Saturn is situated in the 4th, it does give problem in property matters. So why the logic of that “Saturn restores the house it sits in” is not getting fulfilled.
- I will also clear things about karko bhavo nashtey. Well karko bhava nashtey is a condition where it is assumed that if any planet sits in its karaka bhaav, it destorys its karakatavs. So the point is that it is not the case. For karko bhaav nashtey, there are certain conditions which needs to be fulfilled. Such as planet should own Kendra, if it is sitting in its karaka bhaav, then the rule of karako bhaav nashtey is applicable. If any planet is lagna lord and is also the lord of Kendra, here karko bhaav nashtey principle is not applicable. For example for a gemini ascendant, Mercury is lagna lord and also the lord of 4th house which is Kendra. Now if Mercury is placed in 3 or 10th house, again this principle is not applicable.
- Reason that I wrote a descriptive answer here is just to explain, that when you are applying any principle or evaluating yogas, please analyse if it is fulfilling maximum conditions. If not then it will not be applicable.
